An Age-Old Finnish tradition
Also known as onsen, hamman, hot springs and Finnish sauna, the use of Baths as a mode of relaxation is an ancient practice that dates back thousands of years. For Finnish people, the sauna is a place to be at ease with friends or family in search of physical and mental relaxation.
What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is whereby the thermal recuperative and healing properties of water are used to revitalize and restore health.
Hydrotherapy uses hot and cold stimuli to elicit specific reactions in the body to relieve stress, soothe the skin and muscles, calm the organs and improve circulation. Cold is stimulating, and therefore causes superficial blood vessels to constrict, temporarily diverting blood flow from the internal organs. In contrast, hot water stimulates removal of toxins from body tissues. Alternating hot and cold water maximizes both effects and can also decrease inflammation.
There is nothing like the sights, sounds and scents of nature to take you away from it all. From the winding country road driveway to our special hammocks nestled in the trees, everything about Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain is simple & relaxing. Watch and listen for birds, deer, rabbits, turtles and wild turkeys hidden in the trees. Smile and breathe it all in.
In the spirit of minimizing our environmental impact, we have initiated some sustainable practices.
• We provide 2 towels per guest.
• We rent robes and recommend that guests bring their own.
• We provide eco-friendly filtered water stations throughout the Spa.
• We operate a water system which pulls heat out of the cold plunges water then redistributes it into the Hot Baths to save energy.
• We offer stainless steel water bottles or other re-usable bottle options, limiting the need for plastic.
• We use an earth-friendly Canadian supplier for our staff uniforms.
• We offer Canadian products in our boutique.
The water at Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain is managed through a distinct filtering system. The three Hot Baths & two Cold Plunges use ozonators, which produce ozone directly into the water. Ozone is a natural purifier which is safe for the environment as well as the equipment. When ozone is used, it greatly reduces chlorine usage. This location also implemented a heat exchange water system that pulls the extra heat out of the Cold Plunge water during the summer months of the year then reuses that energy to maintain the hotter temperatures in the Hot Baths. The result is a more reliable hot/cold water experience. To ensure the highest quality & premier water chemistry, the water in all the Baths is tested three times daily.
The value of silence & quiet tranquility
Silence clears a path for thought and reflection. At Scandinave Spa silence is at the heart of the experience so the guest can realize complete relaxation, wellness and rejuvenation. We ask guests to use a spa voice.
5 Reasons why we ask our valued guests to consider silence when visiting Scandinave Spa:
1. Silence is the core value of the Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain's relaxation circuit experience, and it's highly valued by both our guests and us.
2. Silence allows you to take in nature without distractions - improving your experience at Scandinave Spa.
3. Silence is respectful to those around you trying to relax and de-stress.
4. Silence heightens your other senses, and improves your mind-body connection.
5. Silence creates the ultimate atmosphere of relaxation.
If you must verbally communicate, we ask that you only use a quiet Spa voice in an effort to maintain the tranquil environment at Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain. Guests are asked to leave all electronics, including cell phones in their locker while visiting the Baths & in the Massage Pavilion. We apreciate your cooperation.
Visit our blog for more information on the importance of silence during the relaxation process.
