Take Time for Wellness

During time of uncertainly it is important to take care of our mental and physical health. Scandinave Spa is the place many people go to rejuvenate their mental and physical wellbeing. So why not practice some of these same techniques while you are social distancing.

With the following few simple tips, accessible to anyone, you can re-create a Scandinave Spa experience in the comfort of your own home.

Switch Off

With all amount of information and news being communicated to you via radio, television, computer and cell phone, give yourself the gift of time to tune out. As the weather warms up with the sights and sounds of spring, step outside on your balcony or deck for some fresh air and visual bathing. Look up at the trees, listen to the birds sing, feel the wind on your face. Relax in your own outdoor environment and simply appreciate the moment.

Embrace Silence & Hydrotherapy

This one may be challenging for people living in shared spaces, but we try to spend 15-30 minutes in a silent hydrotherapy cycle helps personal relaxation. If you are in a shared space situation, let the people you live with know that you are unavailable. Or choose to complete the following hydrotherapy cycle after everyone else is asleep.

Step One: Hot

Have a hot bath. Use that fancy bath bomb you have been saving, add some extra bubbles or bath salts. Indulge in the experience. Light a scented candle, dim the lights and close your eyes. Take a few slow, deep breaths, feel your shoulders drop away from your ears and surrender to relaxation for the next 10-15 minutes.

If you prefer to shower, first spray the walls with cold water. If you have essential oils at home, try adding a few drops of your favourite oils to each of the shower walls before turning the shower on to hot. Our favourite essential oils are eucalyptus and balsam fir. Next, let the water run hot and allow your bathroom to get steamy before stepping into your own at home steam room. For added scent, wet a small hand towel and add a few drops of essential oil before hanging the towel somewhere at face level.

Step Two: Cold

Embrace a cold plunge. If you have experienced a Scandinave Spa hydrotherapy cycle you know the many benefits of a cold rinse. To re-create this experience with all the same benefits at home simply switch that shower to cold water for 10-15 seconds.

Step Three: Relax

After competing the hot and cold elements of your at “home hydrotherapy cycle”, it is time to relax. Dry off and put on your favorite plush bath robe, close your eyes, and practice a short, mindful breathing exercise. If your mind wanders, just re-focus back to your breathing. Count to four while you breathe in, pause then slowly release for another four count. Repeat for 5-10 minutes.

Don’t worry if your mind wanders, just come back to your breath.

Count in for one, two, three, four.

Pause for one, two, three, four.

Out for one, two, three, four.

Pause for one, two, three, four.

Repeat.

We miss seeing you but finding time to connect and practice wellness at home is still a gift you can give to yourself. Take care of yourself and your loved ones and also stay in good physical and mental health.
