An Age-Old Finnish tradition
Also known as onsen, hamman, hot springs and Finnish sauna, the use of baths as a mode of relaxation is an ancient practice that dates back thousands of years. For Finnish people, the sauna is a place to be at ease with friends or family in search of physical and mental relaxation.
What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is whereby the thermal recuperative and healing properties of water are used to revitalize and restore health.
Hydrotherapy uses hot and cold stimuli to elicit specific reactions in the body to relieve stress, soothe the skin and muscles, calm the organs and improve circulation. Cold is stimulating, and therefore causes superficial blood vessels to constrict, temporarily diverting blood flow from the internal organs. In contrast, hot water removal of toxins from body tissues. Alternating hot and cold water maximizes both effects and can also decrease inflammation.
Nature Spa
There is nothing like the sights, sounds and scents of nature to take you away from the everyday. The moment you walk onto the spa’s rustic grounds, birds hidden in the trees will gently welcome you.
Eco Spa
In the spirit of minimizing our environmental impact, we have initiated some sustainable practices. We believe that sustainability is essential to the nature spa experience so we sell re-useable swimsuit bags and stainless steel water bottles in lieu of plastic at a mininal cost. We provide 2 towels per guest & rent robes in order to reduce laundry services. In addition to sourcing a Canadian supplier to provide us with sustainable-fiber staff uniforms, we also offer domestic items made in Canada in our boutique. In addition, we have introduced a water filtration system that uses less chlorine & energy and we are continually committed to find “greener” ways to operate our spa.
Water Quality
The water at Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain is managed through a distinct filtering system. The three Hot Baths & two Cold Plunges use ozonators which produce ozone directly into the water, ozone is a natural purifier which is safe for the environment as well as the equipment, when ozone is used, it greatly reduces chlorine usage. The water in all of the Baths is tested three times daily to assure premium water chemistry.
