The idea of using the baths as a means of relaxation and a source of physical and spiritual well-being is an ancestral practice dating back thousands of years. This European tradition is better known under the name of hydrotherapy, or water therapy.
Water seems to be endowed with miraculous powers that help eliminate stress and rejuvenate the body. It works on the skin and muscles, and enables the body to be revitalized. By stimulating nerve reflexes in the spinal cord, it calms the lungs, the heart, the stomach and the endocrinal system.
The benefits of water therapy are multiple. By using the body’s reaction to hot and cold stimuli, it helps revitalize the mind, eliminate toxins, and calm the nervous system.
Scandinave Spa Vieux-Montréal is a spa on Montreal Island where people can enjoy the age-old experience of the Baths, a method of relaxation and a source of physical and spiritual well being that is among the oldest European traditions. It is a veritable Eden in an urban setting, providing visitors with a multi-sensorial experience from baths, massages and relaxation, all in an environment of natural elements and materials such as water, daylight, wood and stone.
In an effort to minimize our environmental impact, we have adopted strong green policies. We use cleaning products that are 100% biodegradable, keep organic material for compost, and light the spa with low energy LED lights. Heat is recycled and used to warm the water jet bath. In the changing rooms, our hygiene and beauty products are composed uniquely of natural ingredients and are produced locally. Instead of bottled water, you will find a fountain on site. We also offer unlimited lemon filtered water and some tea. Finally, we have phased out plastic bags. We recommend that guests bring a reusable bag for carrying their swimsuit.
Each Scandinave Spa establishment uses a state-of-the-art IT system to monitor the physicochemical properties of the baths, including pH, chlorine and salt levels, and to continually adjust them 24 hours a day. Our technical teams cross-check this data 4 to 6 times a day, or twice as often as is legally necessary.

The value of silence
In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Silence is a Source of great strength. We believe silence is essential to the experience of the Scandinavian baths. By embracing silence one finds inner stillness leading to complete relaxation.
