Life on the Edge with a Professional Climber

After an exhilarating weekend climbing the scenic Niagara Escarpment, Leslie Timms and her husband Kyle took a detour through Thornbury on their way back to Toronto.  They had regularly been making weekend trips to world renowned climbing areas, the Beaver Valley and Lion’s Head, for rock climbing adventures and been thinking about where to ‘hammer in the anchor’, so to speak. During that life changing trip, it became instantly clear.  The two are avid climbers and love immersing themselves in nature. Thornbury’s relaxed small-town vibe surrounded by an outdoor enthusiast’s playground was a perfect fit for these professionals.

Leslie is, as she puts it is “…living the dream”.  As one of Canada’s most experienced and qualified climbing guides, she has successfully carved a career in guiding and teaching through her On the Rocks Climbing Guides company.  The basecamp, at her home in Thornbury, includes ‘the Cave’, an indoor training area that is heavily used by local climbers and Leslie’s students.

As a full-time professional climber, Leslie’s body is her machine.  She adheres to a strict wellness philosophy, that includes diet, fitness, and relaxation. Rock climbing is a workout for both the mind and the body. She acknowledges how important it is for her to disconnect and rejuvenate, as it’s an essential part of her success.

Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain’s hydrotherapy process has become an integral component of Leslie’s training regime. The hot-cold-relax cycle helps her to release tension while energizing and resting her body. Visiting the Baths helps Leslie to take time to relax and reconnect. Scandinave Spa allows her to heal injuries, to recuperate after training, and to spend quality time with Kyle.

Take some time for yourself, to revive your body and mind in a tranquil environment, reconnect with others and yourself in nature at Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain.

NOTE: Leslie Timms, and the On The Rocks Climbing crew, are certified trained professional rock climbers. If you are interested in ‘living on the edge’, please be sure to plan your climb with a certified guide.
